I am Liz Roman and I am passionate about helping you live your best life! Specifically, one of my passions is helping women reconnect with themselves, find their ‘inner skinny girl’ and (re)gain the confidence and happiness we each desire and deserve.
I am a nutrition, mindset and lifestyle coach. I also coach and teach Durability at Opposing Force Training and LOVE what I do! BUT that wasn’t always the case…previously, I worked in corporate as a Human Resources Manager – so I can relate to the frustrating day-to-day work environment, stress eating, busy schedule, traffic jams, too many lunch dates, and the temptations of happy hour.
At that time in my life, I was ‘living’ for the weekend, each day was focused on getting through that day and getting out of work as soon as possible. I was successful in my career, had wonderful mentors and coaches, but I did not enjoy the political environment of corporate America and this triggered an unhealthy lifestyle. Working in retail meant late nights, weekends and the dreading the alarm clock. I was gaining weight due to eating unhealthy foods, drinking 2-3 coffees each day to try and Band-Aid low energy levels, skipping workouts and opting for happy hour, and ultimately wasting money on activities that weren’t improving my life or making me happy (in the moment yes, but not for my future). I was unhappy with the way I looked, felt, and no longer enjoyed going shopping.
I didn’t want to wear a swimsuit because I wasn’t confident or happy with my body. I was set in the Monday mindset, meaning I would always recommit myself to start on Monday, and by Wednesday was back to going out to eat for lunch/dinner, eating, drinking and socializing (Wednesday was my day off)… only to feel like crap the rest of the week from shitty food choices and booze. This cycle got old real quick. Not to mention, I didn’t want to go on dates or meet men because I wasn’t confident in myself – I was successful in my career, had great friends, good social life, a cute town home, a puppy, but I wasn’t really happy internally or ready for a relationship. But, I didn’t let others know that because I came off as confident and happy. I remember, always being asked questions about my personal life …a few of my favorite were, ‘why are you so scared to go on dates? Why don’t you try online dating?’ …well, inside it was because I didn’t want too, I wasn’t ready too or in the right mindset to open up that part of my life. I needed to take care of me first.
So, I made a decision to join a gym, start a biggest loser contest at work, and really set my mind to getting back to ‘me.’ This was tough, it involved saying no to social events, dwindling ‘friendships’ because I wasn’t going out on the weekends and living on 2 hours of sleep before going to work in the morning. It was hard…especially when I decided I didn’t want to spend every night at the local bar watching the sports game, drinking half price beer and indulging in pizza and cheese sticks. Making friends has always been easy, but making the right kind of friends is tough.
My passion is to work with women who have tried everything. Women who are frustrated and ready to make a change to regain their confidence – for good. I have personally been in those shoes as I have struggled to lose weight, I was tired, frustrated, bloated, had dry skin, lacked confidence, and I was sick of yo-yo dieting. I was desperate for a change, longing to be confident in my skin and feel good.
